The World Health Organization confirmed the first
quick test of the Ebola virus in a potential breakthrough for the end of an epidemic that has killed nearly 10,000 people in West Africa, he said
Friday.
The test, the US company Corgenix Medical Corp. was developed, is less accurate than standard tests, but is easy to perform, requires no electricity, and the results can be available within 15 minutes, said spokesman Tarik Jasarevic WHO.
"This is a first quick test. This is certainly a breakthrough," he said.
The standard laboratory test has a duration of 12 to 24 hours. Although Corgenix test is not fail-safe, it can quickly patients who required quarantine and makes it much easier to identify quickly check for new homes. (Reuters)
